• The word "PEZ" comes from the German word for peppermint, which is phefferminz. You take the first, middle, and last letters of the German word - PheffErminZ, put them together and you get "PEZ".
  
  
• In 1927 PEZ candy was invented in Vienna, Austria by candyman Edward Hass lll who came up with an idea for a brick-shaped peppermint as an adult breath mint and as an alternative to smoking, sold in pocket tins.
  
  
• In 1947 the first PEZ dispenser was introduced and looked like a cigarette lighter, followed in 1948 with the 'easy hygienic dispenser'.
  
  
• In 1952 Edward Haas brought his business to America and did extensive research with his products and the way children had been attracted to them, so character heads were placed on the dispensers along with fruit-flavoured candy designed with children in mind. Popeye is thought to have been the first character PEZ dispenser followed by several Disney characters.
  
  
• In 1970, PEZ Candy, Inc. took over the sales and production of candies and dispensers from Haas Food Manufacturing Corporation. In 1973, PEZ built their U.S. plant that is located in Orange, Connecticut, U.S.A.
  
  
• In 1983, Mr. Scott McWhinnie became "PEZident" of PEZ in the U.S.
  
  
• In 1985 Alice in Videoland stocks, as movie companion pieces, a limited range with interrupted supply, of these collectable oddities.
  
  
• In 1987 PEZ Candy, Inc. began to put "feet" on the PEZ dispensers to help them stand up straight.
  
  
• In 2007 to ensure supply and expand Godzone's exposure to these collectibles, Alice directly imports PEZ dispensers with evergreen characters such as E.T., Winnie the Pooh, The Flintstones, Mickey Mouse, Looney Tunes, Best of Pixar, Shrek, The Simpsons, The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Sesame St, The Incredibles, Mr Bean, The Pink Panther and Asterix.
  
  
• In 2008 Alice claims 'Godzone's PEZ Motherlode' stocking fifteen different PEZ characters - many more than ever seen in Australasia and is awarded Fliptop PEZervation Society status..
  
  
• For 2009, and owing to popular demand, and with license in place, an expanded shipment lands that includes the latest PEZ offerings of Batman, Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pooh's Heffalump, Fairies , Spongebob and many old favourites. Wall-e Coming Soon.
  
  
• During 2010 the best ever PEZ shipment arrives direct from the license Holder in Hong Kong. Characters include, for the first time, Thomas & Friends, Disney Classics and Star Wars!
