Arthur Miller

Though few of his plays were adapted for film, his work is so iconic that it would be remiss not to include him here. Born the son of Polish-Jewish immigrants in New York City on October 17, 1915, Arthur saw his father's business devastated by the depression, seeding his disillusionment with the American Dream. A dedicated progressive and a man of integrity, Miller was famous not only for his plays but also for his marriage to mega-star Marilyn Monroe. The screenplay he wrote especially for her, 'The Misfits' gave her perhaps her most telling and challenging role. Miller wrote many plays but just the handful realised for the big screen are listed below. "If I see an ending, I can work backward." - Arthur Miller
