CS Forester

Born Cecil Louis Troughton Smith in Cairo in 1899, he was raised in England, and though he never particularly enjoyed school, he was a voracious reader. Originally intending to go into medicine, he soon realised his talents lay in story-telling. He wrote under the pen-name C.S. Forester and became perhaps best well-known for his swashbuckling Hornblower series, though for medical reasons, he himself was never in the navy. Plagued by arteriosclerosis for much of his adult life, he was paralyzed by a stroke in 1964 and died two years later. Besides his own legacy of writing, we also have Cecil to thank for the discovery of Roald Dahl. "Novel writing wrecks homes" - C.S. Forester
