Sons for the Return Home

From the book by Albert Wendt comes this moving portrayal of love across the racial divide. Sione (Uelese Petaia) from a traditional Samoan family and Sarah (Fiona Lindsay) from a wealthy European family are in love - a love which is opposed by both parents for different reasons. After an ill-fated holiday around New Zealand they have a bitter row which reveals some of their own deep-seated fears and prejudices. Back in Auckland, Sarah discovers she is pregnant. Sione asks her to marry him only to discover the shocking truth about how his mother has influenced the woman he loves.
