It's 1924 and the Boundary Commission from Britain and Ireland is deciding on the new boundary line between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. After months of haggling over every inch of territory, the commissioners are forced to finish the job in hand, after a bicycle incident destroys the surveyor's equipment. With all the participants holding down the pencil and much pushing and shoving, the somewhat wobbly border finds its way down the middle of Puckoon, dividing house from outhouse, man from wife, chairs from bars and church from cemetery! Stirred from his usual apathy by the discovery that cheap beer is now on the wrong side of the pub and border control are demanding to see passports, local hero Dan Maddigan (Sean Hughes) realises that something must be done... First published in 1963, Spike Milligan's literary debut, "Puckoon", is a now legendary comic masterpiece and this film version once again poses the question as to how successfully Spike's work can be adapted from the written word. Brimming over with well known faces from television and the big screen, many of the supporting cast of "Puckoon" had grown up with Spike Milligan's book as a favourite read and were keen to be involved in the film. The cast includes Sean Hughes, Elliott Gould, Richard Attenborough, John Lynch, Griff Rhys Jones and Milo O'Shea.
