Frankie Howerd turned bluster, innuendo and mock outrage into and art form. After faltering post-war radio performances, Howerd used his shyness to his advantage. With stuttering, embarrassment and over-the-top outrage, he created a unique character (complete with catchphrases like "ooh missus", "titter ye not", and "control yourselves") that he would use, unchanged, to magnificent effect in comedy series, sketches and interviews. This compilation of the best of Frankie Howerd's TV career includes sketches and monologues from 'An Evening with Frankie Howerd', Royal Variety Show performances, legendary chat show appearances with Parkinson, Russell Harty and Wogan and the series for which he is best-remembered, 'Up Pompeii!'
