Ludwig van Beethoven's "Fidelio", an opera in two parts, is the story of Leonore, who goes in search of her missing husband Florestan, a Spanish state official, believed to be murdered by his enemies as a result of political machinations which he was determined to expose. The Metropolitan Opera is conducted by James Levine.
