John Pilger: Stealing A Nation

During the 1960s the British and American Governments made a deal to save the British government from paying millions of dollars in debt and to secure America a strategic military platform later used to launch air strikes against Iraq and Afghanistan. The island of Diego Garcia, located in the middle of the Indian Ocean and under Britsh rule, was chosen by the US as the site for their new base. To comply with the American choice the British government set about the forced re-location of Diego Garcia's 2000 indigenous inhabitants. Now, with his award winning documentary, Australian journalist and renowned filmmaker John Pilger brings to light this shocking conspiracy and reveals the plight of these victimised refugees, brutally taken from their ancestral homes and forced to live in abject poverty in nearby Mauritius.
