Director Henri Safran adapts Henrik Ibsen's timeless play to an Australian setting and a turn-of-the-century ambience in this poignant story of an illicit love and its consequences. Disillusioned scientist Harold Ackland's (Jeremy Irons), compromised life with his emotionally frail wife, Gina (Liv Ullman) and fearful daughter, Henrietta, is shattered when an old acquaintance of Harold's visits and exposes an age-old secret.
