The L Word: Season 1

Living up to the blizzard of hype that preceded it, this show took audiences by storm as it followed a close-knit group of lesbian friends living in L.A. An outstanding ensemble cast includes Jennifer Beals and Laurel Holloman as a gay couple wanting to start a family, Pam Grier as Beals' sister and Mia Kirshner as the new kid on the block. Dealing with gay/lesbian issues in an entertaining and adult way, blowing away stereotypes, the show became an instant hit and was picked up for a second season the day after the pilot aired.
