Manapouri: The Toughest Tunnel

In 1964 more than 1000 men confronted seemingly insurmountable odds, undertaking New Zealand's largest ever construction project - a hydroelectric powerplant on the mountainous shores of magnificent Lake Manapouri. On its completion it was discovered its output was insufficient so 30 years later, another tunnel facing the same hazards of hard, unstable rock and near-constant rain, was begun. A fascinating and compelling documentary about a true engineering marvel, right here in New Zealand.
