The Merchant of Venice (BBC)

Warren Mitchell brings a finely balanced ambiguity to the villainous Shylock in this faithful BBC adaptation of one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays. Not to say it was controversial in its day! Along with Mitchell are an excellent British cast that includes John Nettles, Gemma Jones and Kenneth Cranham.
