Secuestro Express
Venezuela's top-grossing film of all time is this taut thriller about a couple who are kidnapped and endure a night of mishaps and terror at the hands of their abductors. Director Jonathan Jakubowicz was once himself kidnapped at gunpoint and the realism of his experience is filtered through a cast predominantly made up of non-actors. Let down by a slightly muddled plot and overly simplistic characterization this hard-boiled drama was still nominated for Best Foreign Film at the British Independent Film Awards.
