The Shvitz

The vanishing culture of the American bathhouse is examined in this cheeky documentary. Featuring interviews with old-timers who recall the history of 'shvitzing' (Yiddish for 'sweating') in the spa with their friends and neighbours, and delightfully informal footage of folks enjoying a good steam in the few old-fashioned bathhouses still remaining, the film captures the pleasures of a disappearing Eastern European tradition.
