A Prairie Home Companion

The late Robert Altman's swansong is this whimsical tribute to radio shows of days gone by. Scripted by Garrison Keillor (who plays himself in the film), it's based on his own still-running radio show, (also called the Prairie Home Companion), and charts the last days of the show as it is about to be axed. As usual Altman gathered an astonishing ensemble cast that includes Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, John C Reilly, Woody Harrleson, Kevin Kline, Tommy Lee Jones, Lindsay Lohan and Virginia Madsen. A fitting farewell from a director whose unique body of work has inspired and paved the way for independent filmmakers around the world.
