Powder Her Face

A contemporary opera, written in 1995 by 24-year-old Thomas Ades, it is based on the life of the brazen and flamboyant Duchess of Argyll as she recalls her colourful life from the 1930s, '50s and '60s. Powerful, inventive and tragic, the Birmingham Orchestra is conducted by Ades himself and the lead is brilliantly brought to life by Mary Plazas.
