Taking the themes and stories presented in the original, this film brings them to a logical and ingeniously appropriate end. Those who ranked the first film among HK's finest of 2005 will welcome this effective sequel. Two years have passed since Lok (Simon Yam) took over the Wo Sing triad and it's time for another to take his place. There are at least two possible candidates, but is Lok willing to hand over the seat of power? As with the first film, the action is chiefly cerebral as double-crosses and crafty deals play out in a slow-burn build-up. Don't expect any high-kicking histrionics, just cold-blooded ambition.
