Will Ferrell does a serio-comic turn as IRS agent Harold Crick, a pedantic number-cruncher who one day wakes up to find he can hear a woman's voice narrating his every move. As it gradually dawns on him that he is a character in his own life he seeks help from literary professor Dustin Hoffman, but can he save himself from the untimely death the voice has promised? Just when his life is turning into something worth living, it seems it may all be coming to an end. That is, if the author (Emma Thompson) can get over her writer's block and figure out how to kill him. Sweetly surreal and co-starring Maggie Gyllenhaal as the kooky love interest.
