All The King's Men

Based on Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer-winning novel about a populist Southern poitician corrupted by power. Set during the Great Depression and moving foward to the 1950s, Sean Penn's Willie Stark is a gregarious and well-meaning man of the people who gets caught up in the financial perks of the political machine; the novel's character was based loosely on a well-known Louisiana senator, Huey Long. Warren's book was made into an Oscar-winnng film in 1949, but this film, despite its powerhouse cast that includes Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet and Patricia Clarkson, was panned by critics.
