When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan

In 2001, American promoters persuaded five noted bands of gypsy musicians to join forces for what was billed as 'The Gypsy Caravan Tour'. The line-up included, from Romania, 18-piece group Taraf de Haidouks and 11-piece horn ensemble Fanfare Ciocarlia, renowned Macedonian vocalist Esma Redzepova, North Indian group Maharaja and from Spain, Antonio de Pipa's Flamenco Ensemble. This beautifully-crafted documentary follows these diverse and incredibly talented artists as they tour the US, then back to their various homelands for a fascinating insight into the vivid culture and music of the Romany.
