Emperor of the North

Aka "Emperor of the North Pole". Set on the Northwest railways during the Depression-era director Robert Aldrich's gritty drama stars Lee Marvin as legendary tramp A No. 1. Determined to prove his "King of the Hoboes" title to protege Cigaret (Keith Carradine) he hops aboard the train patrolled by the cruel, bum-intolerant conductor Shack (Ernest Borgnine) and vows to ride it all the way to its destination. A violent game of cat-and-mouse ensues.
