Burma
Home to more than 50 million people, and with more than 100 ethnic groups, Burma has a rich Buddhist tradition that permeates the country. However, it is also one of the harshest military dictatorships in the world, with any move towards democracy viciously silenced and the populace cowed into submission. Mass uprisings are crushed and all political opposition is effectively silenced.
