This collection includes two adaptations of Victor Hugo's acclaimed novel. First, Fredric March stars in director Richard Boleslawski's 1935 version as Jean Valjean, the petty thief in 18th-century France who escapes jail and begins a new life, with Charles Laughton as the unfeeling and unceasing Inspector Javert. Then, Michael Rennie takes over the role of Valjean, with Robert Newton as his implacable pursuer and Debra Paget as Valjean's ward Cosette, in director Lewis Milestone's 1952 production.
