Focuses on the work of Swiss artist, civil engineer, and legendary bridge builder Robert Maillart. On a basic level, this is a study of reinforced concrete, which sounds admittedly dull on paper. However, Emigholz eschews facts and dates in favour of freeform visual poetry, using shots of Maillart's revolutionary bridges to convey the creativity necessary to turn cold, hard concrete into curved, soaring, expressive structures. In doing so, the film captures "our potential capacity to intuit life through the man-made forms around us" - Nicole Armour, Film Comment.
