Serge (Serge Gainsbourg) is a successful ad man and winner at the advertising awards festival held in Venice. While there he meets an attractive British woman, Evelyne (Jane Birkin), and leaves his pregnant wife for an off-the-wall romance. The visual style recalls the Beatles films made by Richard Lester and Gainsbourg and Birkin fell in love for real after meeting on the set, producing actress Charlotte Gainsbourg during their 12 year marriage.
