Adapted by Simon Nye ('Men Behaving Badly') from Gerald Durrell's beloved book, this BBC made-for-tv production follows the eccentric Durrell family as they abandon gloomy 1930s England for warmer climes. Imelda Staunton plays the sympathetic mother of the rag-tag bunch (of whom blossoming naturalist Gerald is the youngest) as they live in a series of towns on the seemingly idyllic Greek island of Corfu.
