Legendary Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo ('Roman Holiday', 'Spartacus') was the most well-known member of the Hollywood 10 who famously defied McCarthy's House Un-American Committee in the 1950s. Enduring ten years of being black-listed and even a year in prison for contempt, Trumbo scraped a living writing anonymously. Director Peter Askin also helmed the play, written by Trumbo's son Christopher, and in the form of a monologue, with excerpts from Trumbo's letters to his son serving as the script. The play was performed by such Hollywood luminaries as Paul Newman, Nathan Lane and Joe Mantegna; the film splits the readings between several actors, including Paul Giamatti, Joan Allen and Liam Neeson, along with interviews with the man himself, while home movie footage and snippets from the trials provide the visual backdrop.
