The year is 1976, and Napa Valley has yet to gain the reputation as one of the world's best-known wine regions. Jim Barrett (Bill Pullman) has sacrificed everything in life to realise his dream of creating the perfect Chateau Montelena. Meanwhile British wine snob Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) is setting up a blind tasting, pitting his favourite French wines against the new Californians. He is hoping to generate interest for his Parisian wine store, but little does he know that he and Jim are about to revolutionise the wine industry. Based on an entertaining true story, the real Jim Barrett and his son, Bo, served as consultants on the film.
