Clive Barker's harrowing short story has been a long time coming to the silver screen; fans should not be disappointed. Photographer Leon Kauffman (Bradley Cooper) is desperate to impress gallery owner Susan Hoff (Brooke Shields) that his photos are worth an exhibition, however she wants something grittier. Drawn to the New York undergound, Leon follows a group of thugs who ultimately assault a woman who Leon saves; but the next day he reads in the paper that she is missing. On his next subterranean jaunt, a tall, well-dressed man (Vinnie Jones in a non-speaking role), sparks an obsession with Leon that the man is a cold-blooded serial killer. Strange, creepy and imaginatively gory this is an effective little horror/thriller gem.
