As Augusto Pinochet holds Chile in the grip of dictatorship, Raul, a 50-year-old man obsessed with John Travolta's character from 'Saturday Night Fever', gathers with his friends each weekend to re-enact their favourite scenes from the film. Longing for stardom himself, it seems his chance has come when a Tony Manero impersonation contest is announced, but in order to create his persona he embarks on a series of crimes. Brutally dark, with humour to match, this boldly original film was shot on the fly on 16 mm, and starkly contrasts the bleakness of Pinochet's oppression with the mind-numbing escapism of pop culture.
