Somers Town

Tomo is a young lad from Nottingham who wants to escape the cycle of underachievement in his family. Running away to London he meets up with young Polish immigrant Marek and together they do odd-jobs for Marek's odd neighbour and try to impress a French waitress they are both infatuated with. Director Shane Meadows follows in a strong English tradition, set by the likes of Mike Leigh and Ken Loach, telling working class stories with unflinching realism and humour. The film was nominated for four British Independent Film Awards including Best Director, Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Actor for Thomas Turgoose who also starred in Meadows' 'This is England'.
