The Beauty Jungle

AKA 'Contest Girl'. Shirley (Janette Scott) - young, pretty and impressionable - finds herself the focal point of a human-interest story manufactured by newspaperman Don (Ian Hendry) and photographer Walter (Ronald Fraser) to market her good looks. She leaves her home, job, and boyfriend and is transformed into a sizzling, glamorous blonde winning competitions and praise everywhere - but with success comes a new Shirley, made hard by ambition and greed. Will she be able to reclaim a normal life? Or will she destroy herself and those around her? Notable as one of the first films to document the sordid and often hidden reality behind beauty pageants, "The Beauty Jungle" handles the subject matter with an honest and darkly vivid depiction.
