A cop on the edge of an emotional collapse is on the trail of a violent madman in this edgy crime thriller. Jaded, alcoholic, aggrieved and discredited, Detective Louis Schneider (Daniel Auteuil) is all but dumped from the police force after drunkenly hijacking a bus. Removed from his investigation and assigned to bureaucratic work, Schneider is left with ample time to reflect upon the accident that killed his daughter. But when he discovers a paroled serial killer intends to kill again, Schneider allows himself one last shot at redemption. Director and screenwriter Olivier Marchal ('36 Quai des Orfevres') was inspired to make 'MR 73' by his own experiences as a police officer in the early Eighties; the title is police slang for the Manurhin 73, a standard handgun for French beat cops in the 1970s and 80s.
