Waste Land

This uplifting documentary follows the lives of "catadores," or pickers who live in poverty and scavenge through the world's largest garbage dump, outside of Rio de Janeiro, for recyclable materials to earn a living. As artist Vik Muniz travels there to make artistic pieces from the trash, with the proceeds from his creations going to the pickers, an inspiring picture of the art's influence and the power of the human spirit emerges.
