An utterly, completely, inescapably beguiling adaptation of Roald Dahl's book by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer. A slow, wrinkly Mr Hoppy (Dustin Hoffman) lives a quiet life in his London flat: nibbling Jaffa cakes, planning fishing trips and tending his balcony garden. That is, until he was brought out of his shell by new neighbour, Mrs Silver (Judi Dench), with whom he fell secretly in love. During their chats over the balcony railing, he discovered she was distraught that her beloved tortoise Alfie wasn't growing. Hoppy spotted a chance to woo Mrs Silver and hatched a cunning plan to make Alfie miraculously grow. All he needed was 100 other tortoises, a cupboard full of cabbages and a customized fishing rod.
