JCVD (Blu-ray)

Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself in this unique, existential heist thriller with a dark comic streak. Down and out, with only straight-to-DVD titles under his blackbelt, and having recently lost a role to fellow has-been Steven Seagal, an aging Jean-Claude returns to Belgium a broken man, fresh from losing a custody battle for his daughter in Hollywood. However, the bad news continues when a disastrous ATM encounter leads him into the bank, and straight into a robbery situation. Van Damme as you have never seen him, is utterly convincing in this compellingly different, moodily colour-drained, pseudo-mockumentary from Belgian director Mabrouk El Mechri.
