The Kingdom

This joyfully creepy and surrealistic Danish medical thriller/satire, is full of jaded New Age practices, a nationalistic neurologist longing for his Swedish homeland, a spiritualist has-been finally in touch with the afterlife, and more information about voodoo than one would expect in a waiting room. Though comparisons have been made to 'E.R.' and David Lynch's 'Twin Peaks' this is a singular effort. Director von Trier has his own agenda and even makes a carnival barker pitch between episodes accentuating the ever-continuing battle between good and evil.
