Monterey Pop

Director D.A. Pennebaker ('Don't Look Back', 'Jimi Plays Monterey') recorded events at the immense 3 day Monterey International Pop Festival, the first true 'event' concert, pre-Woodstock, in 1967. Featured artists included Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Simon & Garfunkel, Ravi Shankar and more. The Beach Boys were slated to play, but Brian Jones withdrew the band as their ill-fated 'Smile' album had not yet been released.
