In 1926, the tragic and untimely death of silent screen star Rudolph Valentino caused female moviegoers to riot in the streets and in some cases to commit suicide. Ballroom dancer Valentino manipulated his good looks and animal-like grace into a Hollywood career. The man known as the first ever movie sex symbol is portrayed here by Russian ballet star Rudolf Nureyev. Director Ken Russell's ("Women in Love") "biography" is presented in his typically excessive and visually flamboyant fashion. Co-stars Michelle Phillips and Leslie Caron.
