Sumptuous adaptation of E M Forster's novel focuses on the events that occur when a widowed Englishwoman (Helen Mirren) travels to Italy with her friend (Helena Bonham Carter), and decides to marry a native man half her age. This angers her late husband's family, who travel to Italy in hopes of 'straightening her out'.
