This fascinating and fun, though not campy, documentary focuses on Soviet musicals, which were made to distract audiences from the oppressive political realities of their daily lives. Though few, if any, were released in the West, the Soviet Union made over 40 musicals between the late 1930s and the mid 1960s. Featured are clips from such musicals as 'Vacation On The Black Sea', 'The Wayward Wife', 'Tractor Drivers' and the classic 'Volga, Volga', Stalin's favourite movie.
