"The Impressionists" looks at the men who formed the core of the movement; Degas, Pisarro, Renoir and Monet. Despite their very disparate backgrounds and tempraments, they were drawn together by a belief that painting needed to change, and they worked together - and fought with one another - to define what shape that transformation should take. Filled with images of their earliest work and accounts of their struggles to gain acceptance in the all-important government sponsored Salon. Volume 1 introduces the men who changed the way that the world looked at art. Volume 2 looks at their struggle for survival, without a presence in the prestigious annual Salon.
