Though few of his plays were adapted for film, his work is so iconic that it would be remiss not to include him here. Born the son of Polish-Jewish immigrants in New York City on October 17, 1915, Arthur saw his father's business devastated by the depression, seeding his disillusionment with the American Dream. A dedicated progressive and a man of integrity, Miller was famous not only for his plays but also for his marriage to mega-star Marilyn Monroe.
