Aka "Histoires Extraordinaires". Three tales of the macabre by Edgar Allan Poe. Roger Vadim's journey into supernatural erotica, "Metzengerstein", stars then-wife Jane Fonda (who later starred in Vadim's "Barbarella") as a manipulative vixen who falls for her cousin (played bizarrely by Peter Fonda), and plots violent retribution after he rejects her. Louis Malle's take on "William Wilson" features Alain Delon as an officer troubled by a mysterious doppelganger. Federico Fellini's "Toby Dammit" sees Terence Stamp as a movie star stuck in the surreal purgatory of his own fame - as demented and over-the-top as you'd expect from a collision between Fellini and the swinging '60s. These dark and orgiastic tales showcase Europe's best new wave directors in the peak of their form.
