For over 50 years cultural scavenger Joe Bussard, the hero of "Desperate Man Blues", has made it his mission to rescue and to preserve what he calls 'America's real music'. Music in it's purest form, blues, hillbilly, bluegrass, gospel, jazz - undiluted by commercialism. Mostly produced in the 20's and 30's the records have been gathered by Bussard from remote shacks and cabins all over the southern states of America. Joe reckons he has driven some 2 million miles in pursuit of these elusive masterpieces and his huge collection of original 78rpm records numbers over 25,000. The many rare recordings from the likes of Robert Johnson, Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family and Charley Patton are scratchy, raw and often haunting. To say that these tunes stand the test of time is an understatement.
