Four prisoners in a cell - Carrere, Marcus, Daisy and Lassalle. Behind a stone slab, mysteriously pulled loose, they discover a book: the diary of a prisoner, Danvers, who occupied the cell at the turn of the century. The diary contains magic formulas that supposedly enabled the prisoner to escape... A horror film in the purest sense, "Malefique" doesn't pretend to be a psychological thriller, nor does it temper its threat with comedy or faux scares. With an air thick with 'forbidden knowledge', and 'unnamable horrors', this is a gloomy, atmospheric, and bloody film that builds slowly, never letting go until the incredible finale.
