Based on Kveta Legatova's novella about Eliska (Ana Geislerova) a nurse involved in the Czech resistance movement in Prague. When forced to flee into the mountains to avoid the Gestapo she is taken under the wing of an inarticulate and older sawmill worker whose life she had saved. A compelling and beautifully crafted romantic period drama, full of Eastern European charm; nominated for Best Foreign Oscar in 2003.
