The Search for the Northwest Passage

Dozens of attempts were made to link Europe and Asia by sea; two have become legend. British explorer Sir John Franklin set out in 1845 at the height of Britain's passion for conquest; the second began in 1903 led by Norwegian Roald Amundsen in a tiny second-hand fishing boat. This documentary traces both expeditions, revealing why Franklin's ships and crew disappeared so mysteriously, and why, despite a lack of funds and teamwork, Amundsen succeeded. A gripping account of two contrasting adventures narrated by Colin Tierny.
