Viruddh

What begins as a heart-warming family drama soon turns into an indictment of corruption in Indian politics and one father's struggle to clear his son's name. With powerhouse performances from superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the father, and a welcome return to the screen for Sharmila Tagore as the mother, this is a carefully-constructed and sensitive portrait of a father and son in crisis. Unusually for a Bollywood film, there are no songs, but the masala quality is still there in the mix of humour, family drama and pathos.
