Set between the two world wars and based on George Johnston's classic novel, this is the story of two brothers, David and Jack, struggling to grow up with a violent father in post-war Melbourne. Told in flashback by David, now living on the Greek island of Hydra and trying to realise his dream of becoming a writer, this insightful drama won Best Mini-Series at the 2001 AFI Awards.
